Google Doodle Celebrates India's Independence Day with Architectural Theme
New Delhi: Google commemorated India's 78th Independence Day on Thursday with a special doodle featuring the nation's iconic architecture. The doodle, crafted by freelance art director and illustrator Vrinda Zaveri, highlights India's architectural diversity through a series of doors and windows adorned in the colors of the Indian flag—saffron, white, green, and navy blue.
Each door in the digital artwork is embellished with a unique ornate design, incorporating the letters ‘G’, ‘O’, ‘O’, ‘G’, ‘L’, and ‘E’. This creative representation underscores India's rich architectural heritage and pays homage to the country's vibrant history.
In a blog post, Google noted the significance of August 15, 1947, the day India achieved independence from nearly two centuries of colonial rule marked by inequality and repression. The freedom struggle was spearheaded by key figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Subhas Chandra Bose, whose sacrifices were pivotal in the nation's quest for freedom.
Independence Day is celebrated across India with various events including flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, musical performances, and community rallies. The tricolor decorations visible in today's doodle reflect the nationwide festivities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the occasion by hoisting the national flag at the Red Fort and paying tribute to the freedom fighters.
This year’s Independence Day theme, “Viksit Bharat@2047,” emphasizes the government's ambition to transform India into a developed nation by the centenary of its independence. “Viksit Bharat 2047” embodies the collective aspirations and determination of India’s 1.4 billion people, as highlighted by PM Modi in his Independence Day address.
