Guaranteed Minimum Income for Poor - Rahul Gandhi Promises if Congress Comes to Power
Politics is seeing new twists and turns every day as the Lok Sabha elections of 2019 is nearing. With just months to go for the elections, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has announced that he will guarantee a minimum income to every poor if his party comes to power.
Pointing out that 140 million people were lifted out of poverty between 2004 and 2014, Chidambaram said, “The poor of India have the first charge on the resources of the country” and that the “Congress will find the resources to implement the promise of Rahul Gandhi”.
Gandhi's campaign promise is a step towards a universal basic income that some economists have supported instead of subsidies for the poor. Gandhi made this remarks at the 'Kisaan Abhaar Sammelan' held here to express gratitude to Chhattisgarh's people, particularly farmers, for voting the party to power in the state after a gap of 15 years.
