HC Orders CBI Probe Into Jagan’s Uncle's Murder

The Andhra Pradesh High Court, on Wednesday, passed orders handing over the sensational murder case of CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s paternal uncle YS Vivekananda Reddy for further probe.
The HC was unhappy with the poor progress in the investigation by the Special Investigation Teams (SIT) formed by the state police. So, the court ordered a CBI probe into the death of Vivekananda, a former Lok Sabha member.
While passing the order, HC expressed that there may be interstate offenders involved in the crime and the CBI has the network to bring them to book.
Vivekananda Reddy, the younger brother of late CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy, had represented Kadapa constituency in Lok Sabha. A soft-spoken leader, he was found murdered in his bedroom on March 15 last year, just before the general and Assembly elections.
The then CM N Chandrababu Naidu formed an SIT to probe the horrific murder. As the leader of the opposition, Jagan expressed no faith in the state police and demanded a CBI probe.
However, Jagan became the CM in May and formed another SIT. He later changed the head of the SIT too. But, the probe achieved no progress.
Vivekananda's wife Soubhagyamma and daughter Suneetha filed petitions seeking a CBI probe into the murder. Suneetha also named some people as suspects. Former TDP minister C Adinarayana Reddy (who is currently in BJP) also filed a petition in the HC seeking a CBI probe.
Surprisingly, Jagan withdrew his petition for the same. His government claimed in the HC that the SIT was doing a perfect job.
The HC directed that the CBI should begin the probe from Pulivendula police station and complete it as soon as possible. It also pointed out that the withdrawal of petition by Jagan should not have any influence on the CBI investigation.
