In One Month, Indians Spent $1,137 Million On International Travel.
Indians have a lot of money and a strong desire to see the world. A report from TOI says that they spent $10 billion in the last fiscal year, the most they had spent in years. In FY 2020, the closest number was $7 billion. But data from RBI shows that they spent $1137 million in just one month, in December 2022. From April to December 2020, $9,947 million was spent. The dollar increase was very noticeable, and the share of money spent on travel increased by 51%. In 2021, because of the pandemic, people spent less on travel. Vietnam is one of the most popular places because it is easy on the wallet.
Also, there is a lot of connectivity, and the processing of e-visas is faster. In the meantime, places like Dubai and Bali have become too expensive and crowded. Travel agents hope that Sri Lanka, known as the "pearl of the Indian Ocean," will get back on its feet soon. Gen Z also wants to visit places like Yas Island in Abu Dhabi and Kazakhstan.
The latest information from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) shows that Indians alone spent $1,137,000,000 on travel in December 2022. This means that between April and December 2022, people will spend $9,947 million on trips across borders.
During the current financial year, Indians have sent $19,354 million out of the country for things like education, taking care of family members, gifts, and investments. This is almost as much as the $19,610 million sent abroad in FY22, which was the most ever.
