India Accuses Pakistan of Escalating Tensions by Moving Troops to Forward Areas

India on Friday accused Pakistan of escalating military tensions by deploying troops to forward areas along the border. During a briefing by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Wing Commander Vyomika Singh stated, “Pakistani troops have been observed moving into forward areas, indicating their intent to further escalate the tensions.”
Singh emphasized that the Indian armed forces remain on high alert and have effectively countered all hostile actions. “We are committed to non-escalation, provided Pakistan reciprocates,” she added.
India also confirmed retaliatory strikes on Pakistani military bases after Islamabad launched high-speed missiles targeting multiple Indian air bases in Punjab. This marked a major escalation in hostilities following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives.
Colonel Sofia Qureshi detailed Pakistan’s continued aggression, noting that missiles were fired at around 1:40 am, targeting key Indian Air Force bases in Punjab. She said Pakistan also attacked medical facilities and schools in Srinagar, Avantipura, and Udhampur. “A befitting reply has been given to Pakistani actions,” Qureshi affirmed.
According to Indian defense officials, Pakistan has used drones, loitering munitions, and fighter jets in coordinated assaults on India's western borders. Multiple attempts at aerial infiltration were reported at over 26 locations, causing damage to personnel and infrastructure at air bases in Udhampur, Bhuj, Pathankot, and Bathinda.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri labeled Pakistan’s moves as clear provocations and described India’s response as “measured yet firm.”
The current developments suggest a sharp rise in hostilities, with both sides engaged in a dangerous military standoff, as India insists on de-escalation while remaining fully prepared for any further aggression.
