India Aim for Fourth Straight Win Against Sri Lanka in Women’s T20I Series
A dominant Indian women’s cricket team will look to secure a fourth consecutive victory when they take on Sri Lanka in the ongoing five-match Women’s T20I series on Sunday. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India currently hold an unassailable 3-0 lead, having completely outplayed their opponents in all departments.
India’s bowlers have been the standout performers in the series. Deepti Sharma has picked up four wickets across two matches, while Renuka Singh Thakur claimed four wickets in a single game at the Greenfield Stadium on Friday. Harmanpreet has also played her part tactically, winning all three tosses and opting to field, allowing her bowlers to exploit favourable conditions.
The Indian batters have faced little pressure, with the team chasing modest targets in all matches. India have not batted beyond 14.4 overs, lost more than three wickets in an innings, or chased a target above 129. Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues have both scored fifties, while vice-captain Smriti Mandhana is yet to find form, managing only 40 runs in three games.
The team management has also experimented with combinations, rotating players with the upcoming T20 World Cup in mind. Young talents like Gunalan Kamalini and experienced Harleen Deol may get an opportunity in the remaining matches.
Sri Lanka, under Chamari Athapaththu’s leadership, have struggled significantly. None of their batters have crossed the 40-run mark, and their young bowling attack has appeared overwhelmed by India’s depth and consistency.
With confidence high and momentum firmly on their side, India will be aiming to continue their dominance and move closer to a clean sweep in the series.
