India strengthens its global leadership goal on Independence Day.
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi will give his tenth Independence Day address from the Red Fort's ramparts this year, reiterating the country's commitment to global leadership. This majestic building dates back to the 17th century, but the British changed its name and color in 1857.
Every Indian Prime Minister has addressed the country on Independence Day from this fort, a symbol of brave revolt against the British, with the exception of 1947. Prime Minister Modi established museums at the Red Fort honoring the 1857 revolt, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and the Indian National Army in recognition and observance of their significance.
