India will stop water from flowing to Pakistan, says Gadkari
Pulwama terror attack which took lives of more than 40 Indian CRPF personnel saw criticism from the entire world. In a recent counter-attack to it, Union Water resources, River development and water resources minister Nitin Gadkari has tweeted that India will be stopping the flow of its share of water to Pakistan and will rather be diverting it for use of Indians in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.
Gadkari also mentioned that the construction of the dam has also started in Shalpur-Kandi on Ravi river for the same.
During the partition between India and Pakistan, three rivers were given to each. As per the Indus Water Treaty, the Ravi, Sutlej, Beas was allocated to India whereas, the Jhelum, Chenab and Indus waters were allotted for Pakistan to utilise. However, India continuously gave water to Pakistan and now it will no longer do so and rather use it for itself as per Gadkari's tweet.
The construction of dam has started at Shahpur- Kandi on Ravi river. Moreover, UJH project will store our share of water for use in J&K and the balance water will flow from 2nd Ravi-BEAS Link to provide water to other basin states.
