Israel Warns Iran’s Next Supreme Leader Will Be ‘Target for Elimination’
Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz has issued a stark warning that whoever succeeds Ali Khamenei as Iran’s Supreme Leader will be considered “a target for elimination” if they continue hostile policies toward Israel and its allies.
The statement follows Israeli strikes that killed Khamenei and targeted infrastructure linked to Iran’s Assembly of Experts, the clerical body responsible for appointing the Supreme Leader. Katz declared that any future leader pursuing plans to threaten Israel, the United States or regional stability would face direct consequences.
The remarks signal a sharp escalation in rhetoric and potentially in military posture. By explicitly threatening Iran’s top leadership position, Israel has moved beyond targeting military assets to openly deterring political succession itself.
The Supreme Leader in Iran wields ultimate authority over armed forces and strategic policy. As the Assembly of Experts deliberates on succession, the external pressure adds another layer of complexity to an already volatile regional environment.
Analysts warn that such public threats could further entrench hostilities, reducing diplomatic space and increasing the risk of broader conflict. The coming weeks are likely to shape whether the confrontation stabilises or intensifies further.
