January 24 - Meeting to Select New CBI Director
After removal of Alok Verma as CBI director, a new committee leading by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and members are the chief justice of India and leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikharjun Kharge and other members to appoint new CBI director had set up meeting on January 21, however Kharge asked for meeting on January 24 or 25. After intimate discussions government decided January 24 for the meeting.
Alok Verma is appointed as Director General Fire Service which is denied by him, while IPS officer M Nageshwar Rao is proposed to be short-term Director of CBI. However, Congress continues to foray the prime minister for the delay in selecting the director of CBI.
Mallikharjun Kharge one of the committee members who voted against Verma's removal has also said that it is illegal to select M Nageshwar Rao as short-term Director of CBI, having said and also claimed the government is scared of 'Independent' director.
