K. Chandrashekar Rao Pays Tribute to Jyotirao Phule, Highlights Welfare Initiatives
K. Chandrashekar Rao, president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), paid tribute to social reformer Jyotirao Phule on his birth anniversary, recalling his enduring contributions to social justice and equality. He emphasised that Phule’s vision of an inclusive society remains highly relevant even today.
Describing Phule as a visionary leader, KCR highlighted his efforts in challenging caste, class, and gender inequalities. He particularly praised Phule’s role in promoting women’s education, noting how he educated his wife, Savitribai Phule, and championed education for women despite facing societal resistance.
KCR also drew parallels between Phule’s ideals and the welfare initiatives implemented during the BRS government’s tenure. He stated that schemes such as Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima strengthened the agricultural sector, while free power supply and major irrigation projects improved farmers’ livelihoods.
He further highlighted initiatives aimed at supporting traditional occupations, including sheep distribution, fisheries development, and assistance to weavers under “Nethanna Ku Cheyutha.” According to him, these measures contributed to the economic empowerment of Dalit and Bahujan communities and helped revive the rural economy.
Welfare programmes like Aasara pensions and BC Bandhu were also mentioned as key efforts to uplift backward and marginalised communities. Additionally, residential educational institutions established for BC students were cited as steps toward improving access to quality education.
KCR noted that land and funds had been allocated for constructing Atmagourava Bhavanalu in Hyderabad for various BC associations. He urged the current government to continue these initiatives, stating that sustained efforts aligned with Phule’s principles would be the true tribute to the reformer’s legacy.
