K Kavitha Resigns from BRS and Legislative Council Following Suspension

In a dramatic political development, K Kavitha, former Nizamabad MP and daughter of BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao, has resigned from both the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and her post as Member of the Legislative Council (MLC). Her resignation, submitted to the Legislative Council Chairman, takes effect from September 3, 2025. This follows her suspension from the party a day earlier on charges of anti-party activities.
Kavitha’s resignation letter was brief and formal, consisting of a single line: “I hereby tender my resignation of my seat in the House with effect from 03-09-2025.” In a separate communication to the BRS president, she also relinquished her primary membership, requesting him to accept her decision.
Kavitha, who was elected to the Council from the Nizamabad Local Authorities Constituency in 2020, had one more year left in her tenure. Before that, she served as the Nizamabad Lok Sabha MP from 2014 to 2019. Her exit marks a significant turning point in her political career, especially given her proximity to the party’s leadership as KCR’s daughter.
Her suspension and subsequent resignation come amid mounting tensions within the BRS, where her remarks against senior leaders were deemed detrimental to the party. Political observers note that this episode reflects deepening internal conflicts within the BRS, once known for its discipline and unity under KCR’s leadership. Kavitha’s move is also expected to have repercussions in Telangana politics, where she has been a visible presence, especially in Nizamabad. While her future political plans remain unclear, her departure from BRS signals a widening rift within the party at a critical time ahead of the next elections.
