KTR criticizes Delhi police action on protesting wrestlers.
On Monday, KT Rama Rao, minister of information technology in Telangana and working president of the Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS), spoke out against the police crackdown on protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
KTR expressed his displeasure with the wrestlers' treatment on Twitter, writing, "Can any responsible leader from govt of India tell us why it has to be this way?"
He explained, "These are champions who gave us honor on the global stage! They have earned our respect and backing," KTR said.
A 'Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat' (women's assembly) was scheduled as part of the athletes' continuing protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) head Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who they accuse of sexually abusing many female wrestlers. The police action has been criticized by the opposition parties Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, and Trinamool Congress.
