Layoffs: Zuckerberg Offers Immigration Help To H-1b Visa Holders

As large-scale layoffs begin at Meta, employees on work visas such as H-1Bs are now uncertain about their immigration status, with Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta accepting "this is especially difficult if you're here on a visa" and offering support to those impacted.
Facebook Parent Company announced that it is laying off 13% of its employees, with Zuckerberg describing it as "some of the most difficult changes we have made in Meta's history." US-based technology companies hire many H-1B workers, most from countries such as India.
Among the measures put in place by the Meta in the US to help those impacted by the layoffs is "immigration support."
"I know this is especially difficult if you're here on a visa. There's a notice period before termination and some visa grace periods, which means everyone will have time to make plans and work through their immigration status. We have dedicated immigration specialists to help guide you based on what you and your family need," he said.
Meta also announced severance pay of 16 weeks base pay plus 2 additional weeks for every year of service, without a cap; healthcare coverage for 6 months for people and their families; and career support for 3 months through an external vendor, including early access to unpublished jobs.
