Maharashtra Government Seeks CBI Probe into Ajit Pawar Plane Crash
The Maharashtra government has formally requested a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the plane crash that claimed the life of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar near Baramati last month. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that he has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking a comprehensive federal investigation.
The tragic accident occurred on January 28 when a chartered Learjet 45, owned by VSR Company, crashed while attempting to land near Baramati in Pune district, killing Pawar and four others onboard. The incident has triggered political controversy and demands for transparency.
Fadnavis stated that investigations are already underway by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the state CID, and that a CBI probe would ensure all doubts are addressed thoroughly. He emphasized the importance of avoiding speculation until official findings are released.
Meanwhile, Rohit Pawar, a senior leader from the NCP (SP) faction, has raised concerns about possible irregularities surrounding the crash and has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking accountability. Questions have also been raised regarding the aircraft’s ownership and regulatory oversight.
Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar reiterated the government’s commitment to a transparent probe. With the state’s Budget session underway, the issue is expected to dominate political discussions, underscoring the broader implications for aviation safety and political accountability.
