Maruti Suzuki Launches India’s Largest In-Plant Railway Siding

India’s largest in-plant railway siding for automobiles has officially started operations at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant. The facility was inaugurated by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, marking a key step in the government’s green logistics initiative under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.
This massive railway infrastructure is part of the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC), which spans 126 km from Sonipat to Palwal. Spread across 46 acres within Maruti's Manesar unit, the new railway siding can handle the dispatch of up to 450,000 vehicles annually once fully operational.
The facility includes a fully electrified 8.2-km-long track with four full-length rake tracks and an engine escape track. It features modern electronic train interlocking systems, a two-story station building, and safe pathways for railway guards and drivers.
Vehicles produced at Gurugram and Manesar will now be dispatched to 17 hubs across 380 cities, with connections to key export ports such as Mundra and Pipavav. The project was developed by Haryana Orbital Rail Corporation Ltd (HORCL), a joint venture in which Maruti Suzuki has invested ₹452 crore.
MD & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said this move aligns with Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to green logistics and is a significant milestone in its sustainable transport journey.
