Munugode by-poll: Celebrations begin at Telangana Bhavan as TRS’s victory becomes certain

Telangana Bhavan, the State headquarters of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (Bharat Rashtra Samithi), wore a festive look on Sunday as the TRS cadre broke into celebrations as the victory of the party candidate K Prabhakar Reddy in the Munugode bypoll results, became certain.
Prabhakar Reddy was leading by over 6,800 votes at the end of the 12th round of counting of results.
In celebrating the victory, TRS activists burst crackers, danced to drum beats, and distributed sweets at Telangana Bhavan.
They kept chanting the slogans of “Jai KCR, Jai Telangana,” and “Desh ki Netha KCR”.
With over 9 rounds to go, leaders of both parties kept their fingers crossed over the outcome in the crucial by-election, seen by many as a semifinal ahead of next year’s Assembly polls.
The TRS candidate took a comfortable lead in the 1st round. Prabhakar Reddy secured 6,418, while BJP’s Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy polled 5,126 votes. Congress party’s Palvai Sravanthi was third with 2,100 votes.
In the 2nd round, however, the BJP took a lead of 841 votes. A total of 8,622 votes were cast for it, while 7,781 votes were cast for TRS. Once again, Congress came in third place. TRS, however, took 451 votes cumulatively.
In the third round, the BJP polled more votes than the TRS, but in the fourth and fifth rounds, the TRS gained the lead.
A total of 15 rounds of counting will take place. Voting began at 8 a.m. Sunday amid tight security. The poll officials first took up the counting of postal ballots.
Out of a total of 2,41,805 voters, 2,25,192 voters cast their votes.
The TRS fielded former MLA Prabhakar Reddy, who had lost to Rajagopal Reddy in 2018.
Palvai Sravanthi Reddy, daughter of former MP Palvai Goverdhan Reddy, was the Congress candidate.
In 2018, Rajagopal Reddy won the Munugode seat on the Congress ticket, defeating his nearest rival, Prabhakar Reddy of TRS, by 23,552 votes.
Rajagopal Reddy polled 99,239 votes, while Prabhakar Reddy secured 61,687 votes. G. Manohar Reddy of BJP had bagged 12,725 votes.
