Musk writes to Nadella, accusing Microsoft of Twitter data violations.
New York: Elon Musk's lawyer sent a letter to Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, saying that the tech giant has been breaking Twitter's developer agreement for a long time.
In the letter sent on behalf of Twitter, Musk's lawyer, Alex Spiro, said that a recent review of the tech giant's activity on the Microsoft Apps shows that Microsoft may have broken multiple parts of the Agreement for a long time.
Microsoft added eight different APIs from Twitter to its products, such as Xbox, Bing search, and its ads platform.
By registering and using these eight Twitter API apps, the company agreed to follow Twitter's Developer Agreement and Policy. These apps are called Microsoft Apps.
The letter says that Microsoft Apps used Twitter's APIs more than 780 million times and got more than 26 billion tweets in 2022 alone. In fact, Microsoft's account information for one of its apps says right out that it wants to let its customers "go around throttling limits," the letter said.
Last month, the CEO who was leaving Twitter threatened to sue Microsoft over claims that the company "illegally trained using Twitter data."
Musk reacted when Microsoft removed Twitter from its ad platform because, according to reports, it didn't want to pay Twitter's application programming interface (API) fees.
