Naidu Promises ‘Industry’ Status for Tourism in Andhra Pradesh
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that tourism in Andhra Pradesh will soon be granted ‘industry’ status, with an official declaration expected within the next 15 days. Speaking at the World Tourism Day celebrations on September 27, Naidu said this move will bring several benefits, including increased investment, job creation, better promotion, skill development, and sustainable tourism practices.
Highlighting tourism as a powerful economic driver, Naidu noted its potential to boost local economies and improve infrastructure. He cited the recent construction of a ₹100-crore five-star hotel in Adoni, Kurnool district, as an example of how tourism investments can contribute to local development. He also pointed out the state’s long coastline as a valuable asset for developing various tourist destinations.
Naidu emphasized the diverse attractions Andhra Pradesh offers, from beaches, hills, and caves to wildlife, forests, and temples. He specifically mentioned the famous Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirupati, a major pilgrimage site that draws millions of visitors from around the world. “Indians from across the globe visit this revered place at least once in their lifetime,” he said, underscoring its significance.
The Chief Minister directed the Tourism Department to focus on capacity-building and skill enhancement for staff, and promised to use technology to explore new opportunities in the sector. Addressing the recent Tirupati laddu controversy, he vowed to protect the temple’s sanctity under all circumstances.
Naidu concluded by expressing his commitment to transforming Andhra Pradesh into ‘Swarnandhra Pradesh’ by 2047, urging people to support him in overcoming any challenges. Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh, Secretary of Tourism Vinay Chand, and other officials were also present at the event.
