Neeraj Chopra wins silver at the Paris Olympics, qualifying him for the Diamond League final.
Neeraj Chopra, an Indian javelin hero who competed in the Olympics and won a silver medal, qualified for the Diamond League final in Brussels by placing fourth overall after the completion of 14 series matches.
September 13 and 14 will be the dates of the two-day season finale.
The Diamond League champion from India, who finished second in both of the series' meetings in Lausanne and Doha in 2022, earned 14 points for his efforts. On Thursday, he decided not to participate in the meet's Zurich leg.
Neeraj trails Czech Jakub Vadlech, who is in third position, by two points.
With 29 and 21 points, respectively, Anderson Peters of Grenada, who won the bronze medal in the Olympics in Paris, and German sensation Julian Weber occupy the top two positions.
With two Olympic medals, the 26-year-old became the second track and field athlete from India to do so. He made history earlier at the Tokyo Olympics by winning the gold medal.
Neeraj's groin ailment had prevented him from reaching the coveted 90-meter mark during the Olympics in Paris.
Neeraj's sixth and final throw of 89.49 meters put him in second place at the Lausanne Diamond League. First place went to Peters with a final throw of 90.61 meters, and third place went to Julian Weber of Germany with a best throw of 88.37 meters.
With a throw of 89.45 meters in Paris, Chopra won the silver medal—a significant improvement over his winning throw of 87.58 meters in Tokyo—but it was insufficient for the current World Champion and Diamond League finalist, as his good friend Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, who holds the Olympic record, beat him to win the gold with a massive heave of 92.97 meters.
