New Governor for Chhattisgarh
President Ram Nath Kovind, on Tuesday, appointed senior BJP leader Anusuiya Uikey, 62, as the governor of Chhattisgarh. Rashtrapati Bhavan issued a formal order of her appointment after her file was cleared by the President.
Anusuiya is from Chhindwara and is a member of the Parliament of India representing Madhya Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha. Her term was to end in 2022. She has done work in providing justice to women. Her interests in empowering tribal women and creating awareness of their rights are worth appreciating. She was also vice-chairman of the SC/ST Commission.
After the demise of Balram Das Tandon, the former governor of Chhattisgarh, in August last year, Madhya Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel was given additional charge of the post of Chhattisgarh governor.
Anusuiya came in news ahead of Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, when she praised Kamal Nath for his work in Chhindwara constituency.
