Nitish Kumar Resigns as Bihar Chief Minister, Returns to BJP-Led NDA
In a dramatic political move, Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, announced his resignation on Sunday, ending weeks of speculation about his next steps. The veteran politician is set to rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), dealing a significant blow to the opposition bloc in India.
Kumar's decision marks his departure from the Mahagathbandhan, a coalition that included Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Interestingly, he had joined the Mahagathbandhan less than 18 months ago after breaking away from the NDA.
The crucial turn of events unfolded after Nitish Kumar chaired a meeting with members of his party, the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], at his official residence at approximately 10:15 am. Following the meeting, he addressed the gathering around 10:30 am and subsequently headed to the Raj Bhavan, where he submitted his resignation letter to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.
With Nitish Kumar's resignation, the stage is set for him to stake a claim to form a new government with the support of the BJP. This decision is expected to have far-reaching implications in Bihar's political landscape and beyond.
