On Monday, August 19, Indian stargazers will be treated to the first blue supermoon of the year.
According to NASA, a full blue supermoon will light up the sky on Monday, providing Indian stargazers with a celestial display. From Sunday morning until early Wednesday morning, the Moon will appear full. For those traveling eastward from Nepal across Asia, including India and Australia, the Moon will peak on Tuesday morning. India will be able to witness the celestial event on August 19 and 20 during the night and early hours of August 20. This year, there will be four consecutive supermoons.
The Algonquin tribes have named the August full moon the Sturgeon Moon in honor of the large fish that are readily caught during this time of year. This moon is also known as the Red Moon, Herb Moon, Corn Moon, and Barley Moon.
This Sturgeon Moon honors science fiction writer Theodore Sturgeon, who is well-known for his work on Star Trek, for fans of the genre. The Harvest Moon, or September 17, 2024, is when the next supermoon will fall. Additionally, during the night, a portion of it will pass into Earth's shadow, making it partially eclipsed by Earth. On October 17, there will be the third full moon of the year.
It will also be the closest full moon of the year, dubbed Hunter's Moon. November 15th will see the year's final supermoon.
