PM Modi To Take Crucial Decisions Today

Will the national lockdown be lifted on April 14? What is the new extension period? What are the new lockdown norms? These are some questions that our Prime Minister Narendra Modi will discuss in a videoconference with the Chief ministers of the states today at 11 AM.

Reports say that a crucial decision on the extension of lockdown is likely to be taken by PM Modi after this video interaction with all the chief ministers.

This is the prime minister’s second interaction with the floor leaders. During his April 2 interaction with them, PM Modi suggested a lift from the lockdown on April 14 but not in a single go. This is not likely to be the case this time.

The prime minister has also been interacting with various stakeholders, including doctors, journalists and heads of Indian missions to get feedback on ways to check the spread of coronavirus.

Some states like Odisha and Punjab have already taken a lead and extended the lockdown till April 30.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao also suggested that an extension of the lockdown period by another two weeks was needed. While major states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana have left the final decision to PM Modi.

It is probably after this meeting that we would get to know the state of the lockdown after April 14.
