PM Modi Urges Global Reforms, Condemns Terrorism at BRICS Summit 2025

At the BRICS Summit 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong appeal for global institutional reform while calling out the “double standards” often applied to developing nations, especially those from the Global South. In his address, Modi criticized outdated decision-making structures in global institutions and emphasized the urgent need for credible and inclusive representation.
Highlighting that two-thirds of humanity remain underrepresented in global forums, Modi stated that bodies like the UN Security Council, WTO, and multilateral banks must undergo real—not symbolic—reforms. He argued that without voices from the Global South, these institutions are like a “phone with no network.”
The Prime Minister also addressed the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, stating that it was not just an attack on India but on humanity itself. The BRICS joint declaration strongly condemned the incident and called for a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism, while urging nations to abandon double standards in combating it.
Modi further praised the expansion of BRICS as evidence of adaptability, but urged similar changes in other global bodies. He emphasized that reforms must impact governance structures, voting rights, and leadership roles, so the voices of the Global South can truly shape global decisions.
The summit reiterated the importance of unity, inclusivity, and collective action, especially in the face of terrorism and inequality.
