Later, in a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said, "I thank @POTUS @JoeBiden and @FLOTUS @DrBiden for having me at the White House today. We had a great time talking about many things." Jill Biden met with Modi at the National Science Foundation (NSF) earlier in the day. There, they both participated in an event to show how India and the US have similar educational and workforce goals.
President Joe Biden and the First Lady will host a State Dinner on Thursday at the South Lawn of the White House. About 400 people are expected to attend. During Prime Minister Modi's trip to the US, he will also speak to a joint session of the US Congress.
The White House also said that the president and first lady would give Prime Minister Modi a hand-made, early-20th-century American book galley as the official gift.
It also said they would give Modi an old American camera, a copy of George Eastman's patent for the first Kodak camera, and a hardcover book on American wildlife photography.
Modi came to Washington from New York, where he led a historic event at the UN Headquarters to celebrate the 9th International Day of Yoga. The event was attended by UN officials, diplomats, and other well-known people.
President Joe Biden and the First Lady asked him to come to the US from June 21 to 24.
