PM Modi's Fiery Response in Rajya Sabha: Criticizes Congress, Highlights Government Achievements
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his reply to the Motion of Thanks to the President's address in Rajya Sabha, launched a scathing attack on the Opposition for their 'samvidhaan bachaao' campaign, accusing them of having a history of abusing the Constitution for personal interests. He also highlighted his government's achievements and vision for the next five years.
PM Modi began his speech by countering Congress's '1/3rd government' jibe with his 20-year retort, asserting that his government had completed one-third of its term and had two-thirds remaining. "A Congress colleague repeatedly said 1/3rd government. We have completed 10 years now and there is 20 more to go. So, we have completed 1/3rd term, 2/3rd remains. So, 'unke muh mein ghee shakkar' for his prophecy," he said, drawing cheers from the Treasury benches.
PM Modi criticized Congress for waving booklets of the Constitution, reminding them of their own history of abusing it during their rule. He pointed to the dark period of the Emergency, the belittling of the Prime Minister's chair in UPA I and II by the 'Super PM', and the tearing apart of a Cabinet note by then Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of the Constitution, stating, "It is the Constitution given by Baba Saheb Ambedkar which has allowed people like me, who have zero political lineage, to enter politics and reach such a stage." He recalled the opposition his government faced when proposing to commemorate November 26 as "Constitution Day".
PM Modi accused Congress of running its governments on auto-pilot mode, leaving people to fend for themselves, and now resorting to fake propaganda campaigns to mislead the public. He noted that the party has reduced itself to mere slogan-shouting.
Highlighting his government's achievements, PM Modi stated that the people voted the NDA to power thrice to achieve goals of development and self-reliance through 'Viksit Bharat' and 'Atamnirbhar Bharat'. He mentioned the country's economic rise from the tenth to the fifth-largest economy despite global challenges and the pandemic. "This mandate is to take the economy to third place from the present fifth place," he said.
Discussing government priorities, PM Modi underscored the importance of strengthening the four pillars of farmers, the poor, narishakti (women), and youth. He highlighted the benefits of the Kisan Credit Card, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, and Kisan Kalyan Schemes to millions of farmers, along with a Rs 12 lakh crore subsidy for fertilizers, the highest since Independence.
PM Modi emphasized that Bharat has gone global, welcoming foreign investments, creating employment opportunities for youth, and showcasing their potential on an international platform. He recalled the suppression of the press and radio during the 1977 Lok Sabha elections and expressed concern over the tendency to protect the corrupt within the opposition.
He mentioned various scams committed by opposition-led governments and rejected accusations of misusing enforcement agencies. He criticized the opposition's double standards in the fight against corruption and accused them of plotting conspiracies against their own alliance partners in states.
Reiterating the President's concern over recent paper leaks, PM Modi assured the youth that his government is taking strict action against those playing with the future of the country.
On the situation in Manipur, PM Modi stated that the government is continuously working to ease tensions, noting the lodging of over 11,000 FIRs and the arrest of more than 500 wrongdoers. He emphasized that the incidents of violence in Manipur are decreasing, indicating a hopeful possibility for peace.
