Police Inspectors Request IT Minister Nara Lokesh to Create 150 Supernumerary DSP Posts
A group of Police Inspectors from the Visakha Range submitted a representation to IT Minister Nara Lokesh on October 18, requesting the creation of 150 supernumerary Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) posts. The Inspectors, who were recruited as Sub-Inspectors between 1995 and 1998, expressed concerns over their lack of promotions despite nearly three decades of service.
The Inspectors explained to Lokesh that some of their batchmates from the 1995 recruitment recently retired without being promoted to DSP, remaining in the rank of Inspector. They reminded the minister that during the TDP government in 2014, 160 supernumerary DSP posts were created, leading to promotions for 1991 batch officers. However, under the YSRCP government from 2019-2024, all these posts were phased out.
In their representation, the Inspectors pointed out that Telangana had created 122 supernumerary DSP posts in March 2023, promoting the 1998 batch Inspectors, and urged Lokesh to implement similar reforms in Andhra Pradesh. They emphasized the need for promotions, especially for senior officers who have dedicated many years to the police force.
