Prevalence of Omicron subvariant XBB.1.5 increases to 75% in the US.

According to the most recent information made available on Friday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the US has reported a total of 91 paediatric flu deaths so far this season (CDC). According to CDC estimates, there have been at least 25 million illnesses, 280,000 hospitalisations, and 17,000 flu-related deaths in the US this season. According to CDC data, the flu hospitalised over 4,000 individuals in the US in the most recent week ending January 21. This week, six kid flu-related fatalities were reported, according to the Xinhua news agency. As long as influenza activity persists, the CDC advises that everyone aged 6 months and older receive an annual flu vaccination.
According to estimates, XBB.1.5 is to blame for 74.7 percent of the Covid-19 cases in the US, up from 65.9 percent the week before. BQ.1.1 continues to be the second most common strain, with a 15.3% prevalence, according to the Xinhua news agency.
Since the week of November 12 of last year, when it represented just 0.1% of cases countrywide, the CDC has been tracking XBB.1.5 independently from its parent strain XBB. Since that time, XBB.1.5 has been rapidly spreading throughout the US.
