Raghav Chadha and Six AAP MPs Join BJP, Trigger Major Political Shift
In a dramatic political development, Raghav Chadha and several other Rajya Sabha members have announced their exit from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and their decision to merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The move represents a significant blow to AAP’s leadership and could alter the political landscape in Parliament.
Chadha, along with Ashok Mittal and Sandeep Pathak, made the announcement during a press conference, confirming their alignment with the BJP. They were joined by four other MPs—Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Vikram Sahney, and Swati Maliwal—bringing the total to seven.
The leaders claimed that their decision was based on constitutional provisions allowing a merger when two-thirds of a party’s members in a legislative body agree. Chadha stated that the group chose to join the BJP to continue what they described as “positive politics” and to better serve the nation.
The announcement was made in the presence of BJP national president Nitin Nabin, signaling the party’s readiness to absorb the defecting MPs. The move is expected to strengthen the BJP’s position in the Rajya Sabha while raising questions about internal dissent within AAP.
Political analysts suggest that this development could have long-term implications, not only for AAP’s parliamentary strength but also for its credibility as a reform-driven party. The coming weeks are likely to see further political maneuvering as both parties respond to the shifting dynamics.
