Rifts In Swiss Direct Democracy
The rules and the laws of providing Citizenship to an individual or a family differ according to the countries. For Example, to be a citizen in Switzerland,
citizenship decisions are first taken locally, then approved at the cantonal level and finally at the federal level.
The most decisive stage is that of municipal level for the most but for Nancy Holten, who was born in the Netherlands and shifted to Switzerland when she was 8 years old, it was a nightmare when her local village residents denied voting in her favor.
The main reason behind their denial for the long-haired, mother of three teenaged daughters, Nancy that she was quite outspoken, had an unappealing lifestyle and disrespected the ultimate Swiss symbol- the cowbell. Nancy used to complain about their sound hurting her ears. Also, she has angered the villagers for stopping the night church bells.
Off course, the village denial did not stop her from re-applying, where she was granted citizenship after all. Nancy now wishes to lead the election and raise the question about Citizenship.
