Russia Criticizes US Aid to Ukraine, Foresees Humiliation: Why?
Russia criticized the US for its support of $60.84 billion in aid for Ukraine, viewing it as a deepening involvement in a hybrid war against Moscow akin to past conflicts like Vietnam and Afghanistan. This aid package, passed by the US House of Representatives, aims to provide security assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, despite objections from some far-right Republicans.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the US move, stating that it demonstrated a desire for Ukraine to continue fighting, even at the cost of Ukrainian lives and potential attacks on Russian territory and civilians. She warned that the US's deepening involvement in the Ukraine conflict would lead to a "humiliating fiasco" akin to past military engagements.
While the US has ruled out sending troops to Ukraine, it has faced pressure to provide more military support. CIA Director William Burns highlighted the risk of Ukraine losing on the battlefield without additional assistance. Meanwhile, Russia continues to control significant portions of eastern and southern Ukraine, despite Kyiv's efforts to push back Russian forces.
