SIT Begins Questioning Former CM KCR in Alleged Phone Tapping Case
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday began questioning Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao in connection with the alleged phone tapping case. The questioning took place at his Nandinagar residence in Hyderabad amid tight security arrangements.
The inquiry commenced around 3 pm when a team of senior SIT officials arrived at the residence and set up a designated room for the examination. As per legal procedure, Chandrashekhar Rao was allowed to have one person present during the questioning, and former MP J. Santosh Kumar accompanied him. Senior advocate Ramchander Rao remained available to provide legal assistance if required.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao was present at the residence in his capacity as a family member. Other senior party leaders, including T. Harish Rao and R.S. Praveen Kumar, along with legal advisers, were also present during the proceedings.
Security around the residence was significantly tightened, with multiple layers of police deployment to maintain law and order. Several BRS MLAs, MLCs, and party leaders gathered at Telangana Bhavan, closely monitoring developments.
The alleged phone tapping case has emerged as a major political and legal issue in Telangana, with accusations that phones of political leaders, journalists, and others were unlawfully surveilled during the previous BRS government’s tenure. The SIT is probing the extent of surveillance, those responsible, and whether proper authorisation was obtained.
Chandrashekhar Rao’s questioning marks a significant development in the investigation, as it brings the former chief minister directly into the inquiry process.
