Scam Using Fake Letters Caught in Canada; U.S. Next?
The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) caught Brijesh Mishra on June 23. He was the main suspect in a scam involving fake offer letters from Canadian schools.
The scam was found in March when almost 700 Indian students in Canada found out that the letters of admission offers they had received were fake. Many of them had work permits and had applied to live there permanently. It's a scam that has never been done before.
Lovepreet Singh's father, Joga Singh, was thankful when his son's removal was put off on June 10. He thinks that his prayers have been answered. He wants justice for all the students who were hurt and said that the schools' role needs to be looked into.
A Canadian student group called "Stand for Student Morcha" has also written to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to ask him to step in and work with the Canadian government.
Many students in the US also have to deal with these kinds of cons. These scam artists are destroying their lives. After the scam was caught in Canada, it is likely that the Biden administration will do similar investigations in the U.S. since they are already looking into H1b fraud.
