Skyroot will launch India's private orbital rocket Vikram-1 from Hyderabad.
Skyroot Aerospace, a startup located in Hyderabad, is aiming for its next orbital mission this year after making history by being the first private business in India to launch the Vikram-S rocket last year.
The orbital rocket Vikram-1 is progressively advancing through several testing and development milestones in preparation for its launch this year. This adaptable orbital launch system is capable of putting a variety of payloads into orbit.
They successfully tested the entirely 3D-printed Raman-II engine that will power their Orbital Adjustment Module (OAM), the top stage of the Vikram-1 rocket. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) sponsored the test.
According to Pawan Kumar Chandana, co-founder and CEO of Skyroot Aerospace, "the orbital launch is scheduled for the end of the year, subject to clearance from respective authorities."
Vikram-1 was designed to be capable of delivering payloads up to 480 kg to 500 km of low-inclination orbits. Additionally, it features a design that enables 24-hour assembly and launch preparation at any launch site.
The first orbital rocket to be launched by the private sector in South Asia and India would be this multi-stage rocket, he said.
Their emphasis has always been on innovation in launch vehicles created in terms of efficiency, economics, and progression as a prominent competitor in the Indian space-tech industry. This orbital launch utilised a variety of technologies, including 3D printing, carbon composites, and fuels with an eye towards the future.
Skyroot wants to make space travel dependable, frequent, and available to everyone. This necessitates the development of additional cutting-edge technologies that improve access to deeper space, making space launches and other downstream space services very affordable, dependable, and available to the general public.
By naming its launch vehicles "Vikram," Skyroot is paying honour to eminent scientist Vikram Sarabhai, who founded India's space project. Skyroot Aerospace, which has its headquarters in Hyderabad, specialises in the creation of launchers for putting commercial satellites into orbit.
