Supreme Court Considers Interim Bail for Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal Amid Legal Battles
The Supreme Court of India hinted at possibly giving Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal interim bail because of the upcoming elections. They told the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to be ready to talk about this during a hearing on Tuesday, May 7. Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta stressed the need for clarity and told both sides not to assume what the court might decide. They asked the ED to suggest conditions if Kejriwal gets bail, like whether he can keep doing his chief minister duties.
The court made it clear they haven't decided yet if they'll grant bail. This comes while Kejriwal is facing legal troubles after being arrested by the ED on March 21 for a money laundering case linked to Delhi's old excise policy. Even though he's been denied bail before, he's still serving as Delhi's Chief Minister. His wife, Sunita Kejriwal, has been actively involved in their party's campaigning, showing how important this case is politically.
At the same time, the Delhi High Court rejected a plea challenging Kejriwal's arrest in the money laundering case, saying it wasn't the right way to go about it. They said Kejriwal, who's in custody because of court orders, has ways to appeal through proper procedures. This shows how complicated and legally tricky Kejriwal's case is, drawing a lot of attention and sparking political debates. Now, everyone's waiting to see what the Supreme Court decides and how it could affect Kejriwal's future.
