TDP Announces Candidates for Rajya Sabha By-Elections in Andhra Pradesh
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has announced B Mastan Rao and S Satish as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha by-elections from Andhra Pradesh, scheduled to be held on December 20. The announcement was made by TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu late on Monday.
As part of the NDA alliance in Andhra Pradesh, the TDP, BJP, and Janasena are gearing up for a strong showing. Notably, Naidu also revealed that prominent Backward Classes leader R Krishnaiah has been nominated by the BJP as their Rajya Sabha candidate from the state.
With a commanding majority of 164 seats in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, the NDA alliance is poised to secure three Rajya Sabha seats in the upcoming by-elections. The TDP holds 135 MLAs, Janasena 21, and the BJP eight, positioning the coalition for a decisive win.
This marks a significant opportunity for the TDP, which currently has no representation in the Rajya Sabha. Naidu expressed optimism that this development would solidify the party's foothold in the upper house of Parliament.
Additionally, Naidu announced that Janasena Secretary General K Naga Babu would be inducted into Andhra Pradesh's council of ministers, signaling further collaboration within the alliance. The counting of votes for the Rajya Sabha by-elections is scheduled for December 20.
