TDP Leader Found Selling Liquor

It is now known that production and supplies of both liquor and cigarettes have been suspended since the lockdown announcement. Despite it, a TDP leader from Chittoor has been found smuggling and selling liquor.
Raids were carried on by the police on Saturday night at the NPS Bar and Restaurant in Kongareddypalle of Chittoor, where they recovered a huge cache of liquor.
Liquors bottles were found being smuggled at a higher price of Rs4000, which were actually priced at Rs800. The police seized 960 beer bottles and 60 full bottles.
After further inquiry, it was found that the shop was owned by a local TDP leader. However, a case has been registered against the manager of the bar.
With liquor and cigarettes not classified as essentials in India, prices of these products have shot up with several retailers selling them at black charging 5-10% price premium over their sticker rate.
But many of them are selling it backdoor at a price which is more than the printed price. Liquor industry organizations have approached the government to exempt the sector so that consumers can get the products.
