TDP Leaders Oppose Sharing Rajya Sabha Seats with Allies
With the deadline to file nominations for three Rajya Sabha seats fast approaching, several Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders have urged the party’s high command not to share the seats with alliance partners BJP and JSP. These elections were triggered by the resignation of three YSR Congress Party MPs from the Upper House.
Nominations for the seats can be filed between December 8 and 10, with the withdrawal deadline set for December 13. While TDP is yet to finalize its candidates, speculation is rife that Beeda Masthan Rao, who recently shifted from YSRCP to TDP, may be nominated for one of the seats.
Currently, the TDP lacks representation in the Rajya Sabha, prompting party leaders to appeal to TDP supremo and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu not to share seats with allies. So far, neither BJP nor JSP has made formal requests for a seat, but they are expected to seek one.
Reports indicate that TDP might consider giving one seat to the BJP to nominate R. Krishnaiah, a prominent leader from the Backward Classes (BC) community. However, sources close to Krishnaiah claim to have no confirmation on the matter. Despite the uncertainty, they remain optimistic about the BJP high command leveraging Krishnaiah’s experience where it benefits the party.
As the nomination process draws closer, the internal dynamics within the TDP and its alliances are likely to shape the final decisions, adding intrigue to the forthcoming elections.
