TDP Ramps Up Efforts for Graduate MLC Seats Amid YSRC Uncertainty
As the YSR Congress Party (YSRC) remains undecided about contesting the upcoming elections for the graduate MLC seats in the Twin Godavari and Krishna-Guntur districts, the TDP has intensified its preparations to secure these two key seats. The TDP, which recently gained momentum by winning three graduate MLC seats in March 2023, is now looking to build on this success as the general elections approach.
To strengthen its position, the TDP has not only announced its candidates well ahead of time but is also focusing on the enrolment of graduate voters to secure a comfortable win. After a string of losses while in opposition, the party's recent victories have given it a renewed morale boost. Under the leadership of N Chandrababu Naidu, the TDP has organized various programs, formed alliances with the JSP and BJP, and has its sights set on further strengthening its presence in the Legislative Council.
When asked about the YSRC's potential participation, a senior YSRC leader indicated that the focus remains on enrolling graduate voters for now, with a final decision on contesting yet to be made by the party leadership.
Meanwhile, Naidu has provided a clear roadmap to the TDP candidates and urged party members to work closely with their JSP and BJP allies. Speaking with MPs, MLAs, and other senior leaders from East and West Godavari, Krishna, and Guntur districts on Friday, Naidu encouraged everyone to work toward the victory of the MLC candidates.
"We have already named Perabattula Rajasekhar as our candidate for the combined East and West Godavari districts, and Alapati Rajendra Prasad for the Krishna and Guntur constituency after consulting with party members," Naidu announced. He emphasized the importance of completing voter enrolment before the November 6 deadline and suggested that the candidates hold coordination meetings with leaders of all three alliance parties to maintain unity.
Naidu underscored the value of collaboration by recalling the NDA’s success in the general elections with 93% of the seats. He highlighted ongoing development efforts, such as the approval of the Amaravati railway line, rural development initiatives led by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and recent policies aimed at attracting investment and providing jobs in Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu appealed to all eligible graduates to register as voters and reminded them of the recent initiatives, including filling vacant teaching positions and implementing strategies for job creation. "We aim to create 20 lakh jobs in the next five years and restore Andhra Pradesh’s status as a leading investment destination," he affirmed.
To support these efforts, Naidu has directed TDP leaders to establish NDA coordination committees at the mandal level, aiming to strengthen the alliance in preparation for the 2029 elections.
