TVK Leader’s Call for ‘Youth Revolution’ in Tamil Nadu Sparks Political Fury After Karur Stampede

Tamil Nadu has been plunged into a heated political storm after a controversial social media post by Adhav Arjuna, joint general secretary of Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). In his now-deleted post on X, Arjuna called for a “youth revolution” similar to uprisings in Sri Lanka and Nepal, suggesting it was the only way to end “state terrorism” and regime dominance. The post came amid mourning over the Karur stampede, which tragically claimed 41 lives, sparking outrage across the political spectrum.
Arjuna wrote: “If the police have become the servants of the ruling class, the only way to restore order is a youth revolution. So too will there be a youth uprising here.” His remarks were widely condemned as provocative, especially during a sensitive time of grief and investigation.
The ruling DMK was quick to respond, with spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai accusing TVK of exploiting tragedy for political mileage. “A corrupt person caught in the ED net, who caused tragedy, now speaks of revolution? Does he think a revolution can be bought with money and social media influencers?” Annadurai said sharply.
Meanwhile, police investigations into the stampede have intensified. A case under serious provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against key TVK leaders. Karur West District Secretary Mathiyazhagan, the prime accused, was arrested after being found in hiding. Other senior leaders, including General Secretary N Anand and Joint General Secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar, remain absconding.
Screenshots of Arjuna’s post continue to circulate online despite his deletion, keeping the controversy alive. With police tightening their probe and political tensions escalating, the Karur tragedy has turned into a major test for TVK’s credibility and responsibility as a political movement.
