Telangana Life Sciences Value Doubles To $100 Billion.
With Pharma City, the world's largest integrated pharma manufacturing cluster, nearing completion, IT and Industry Minister KT Rama Rao claimed Hyderabad would soon become a global pharma manufacturing powerhouse. The State's life sciences sector also doubled from $50 to $100 billion in five years.
Telangana's life sciences and associated workforce would quadruple to 8 lahks in five years. We'll capitalise on our capabilities and expand into other markets. The state has various research, contract research, and manufacturing enterprises. He stated companies are willing to expand, which is positive.
The Minister told the reporters ahead of Tuesday's 20th BioAsia that the Genome Valley would add 20 lakh sqft of real estate. Thirty lakh sq ft was built and utilised. Telangana was producing nine billion vaccinations. 35% of global vaccination production. He claimed Telangana vaccines were supplied to 100 countries and would reach 14 billion doses next year, representing 50% of world vaccine production.
Telangana exported over 30% of India's pharmaceuticals. He added Sultanpur's medical devices cluster, home to Asia's largest stent factory, had received positive feedback and had few empty spaces.
Rama Rao said a proactive central government would have helped the State's IT, health, and life sciences sectors thrive.
The Central spoke about cooperative federalism and Team India but did not act accordingly. State ITIR project cancelled. If allowed, Telangana would have had more IT prospects. Despite a vast supporting environment, the Government rejected Telangana's bulk pharmaceuticals park request. 214 US FDA facilities are in Telangana. NJ follows with 189 USFDA units. He noted that Telangana was denied a bulk pharmaceuticals manufacturing park despite having many US regulator-approved pharma businesses.
A defence and aerospace cluster between Hyderabad and Bangalore was also denied. He said a defensive industrial corridor would have benefited Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, but the Centre announced it at a place without staffing and resources. Telangana will keep growing. He claimed growth would accelerate if the Centre supported it.
Rama Rao claimed Pharma City was awaiting court rulings. Despite acquiring 14,000 acres for the project, he claimed no company has received land. Rama Rao claimed Telangana was only building one medical college in each district, but the Centre was building several educational institutions nationwide. Ranga Reddy's new medical college will use Pharma City.
It will have a hospital, nursing school, pharma research, and manufacturing. He added that Telangana was piloting citizen health profiles and that Sircilla's medical college would specialise in oncology. The multi-department endeavour would give medical professionals with patient data via digital channels. This would save golden hour time and lives. He claimed smart cards would be provided to everyone to replicate the pilot across the state. He assured patient privacy and noted that research led to precision medicine as the next frontier.
