Telangana will be highlighted as a seed centre at the ISTA meeting in Washington
According to Dr. Keshavulu, president of the ISTA, the State has become a centre for the export of seeds to the Asian continent because of its policies that promote and are sympathetic to farmers.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Washington, DC hosted the International Seed Testing Association (ISTAGoverning )'s Board meeting for the year 2023 from February 13 to February 18.
The ISTA Governing Board meeting, which included members and representatives from many nations and international organisations, was presided over by Dr. Keshavulu in his position as ISTA President. Dr. Keshavulu gave a presentation on the Indian seed sector at the seminar, focusing particularly on Telangana. He gave an overview of the State government's efforts to establish Telangana as a major seed centre.
According to him, Telangana has been growing as an Asian seed export hub as a result of the state government's farmer-friendly policies. He also noted that regionally harmonised seed standards, phytosanitary requirements, and trade regulations will present Telangana and India with a significant opportunity to increase seed exports in the future.
Specialists at the forum emphasised that farmers' lack of access to high-quality seeds was a significant issue for food production in the countries in the Mekong region.
