The reasoning behind Telangana's brand new Secretariat

The creation of the new Secretariat was not a spur-of-the-moment choice. The Telangana State government, led by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, began functioning out of the former Secretariat shortly after the state was officially formed. However, many issues arose for workers and guests because of inadequate facilities like cafeterias and parking. Short circuits weren't the only thing threatening the safety of the workers; on multiple occasions, concrete patches and chunks of ceiling fell down as well. In light of these considerations, the Chief Minister appointed Roads and Buildings Minister V Prashanth Reddy to head a Cabinet Sub Committee to investigate the old Secretariat's structural stability and other issues. The report from the subcommittee stated that the building needed to be in better shape. The state government appointed the R&B Engineer in Chief to head an expert committee in response. After careful examination, the Committee found numerous faults and suggested building a new, high-quality secretariat following the needs of the State administration.

On June 27, 2019, the Chief Minister laid the new Secretariat foundation. The husband-and-wife architectural team of Drs designed the new Secretariat. Oscar G. and Ponni M. Concessao. Shapoorji Pallonji and Company Private Limited built the new Secretariat after the Chief Minister approved the designs.

The relevant authorities gave the building's construction budget of Rs.617 billion. To date, Rs.550 crore has been spent, and the final construction cost is anticipated to be 20%-30% higher than the initial estimates. The rise in GST from 6% to 18% was a major factor in this. Because of this, the cost of building supplies reportedly skyrocketed, according to authorities.
