Trump Defends Immigration Raids, Says “They Haven’t Gone Far Enough”
US President Donald Trump has sparked fresh controversy by defending his administration’s aggressive immigration raids, declaring that they “haven’t gone far enough.” In a CBS “60 Minutes” interview aired Sunday, Trump dismissed criticism over rights violations and police brutality linked to recent ICE operations across the country.
Asked by anchor Norah O’Donnell whether his agents had “gone too far,” the 79-year-old president replied, “I think they haven’t gone far enough.” He blamed “liberal judges” appointed by former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden for “holding back” immigration enforcement efforts.
The raids, which have reportedly involved ICE officers using tear gas, breaking car windows, and tackling suspects, have triggered nationwide protests — particularly in Democratic-led cities. Despite growing backlash, Trump defended the actions, saying, “You have to get the people out.”
Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has renewed his campaign promise to launch mass deportations targeting undocumented immigrants. His administration has also deployed National Guard troops to support immigration operations in cities like Los Angeles, with similar deployments in Portland and Chicago blocked by courts.
The CBS interview was Trump’s first since reaching a $16 million settlement with the broadcaster over a 2024 pre-election dispute involving his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris. The latest comments have reignited debates on Trump’s hardline immigration stance, raising fears of intensified crackdowns and escalating tensions between the federal government and sanctuary cities.
