Trump Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Iran Over Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran, demanding that it fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours or face severe military consequences. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that failure to comply would result in US strikes targeting Iranian power plants, starting with the largest facilities.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route, has become a focal point amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. Trump emphasized that while the US does not rely heavily on the strait, major economies such as Europe, China, Japan, and South Korea depend on it significantly. He urged these nations to take greater responsibility in ensuring its security.
Describing the reopening of the strait as a “simple military manoeuvre,” Trump acknowledged that it would require substantial coordination and resources, including naval deployment. He also criticized NATO for what he described as a lack of decisive action so far.
At the same time, Trump dismissed growing international calls for a ceasefire, asserting that halting operations at this stage would be counterproductive. He argued that the US military campaign has already significantly weakened Iran’s capabilities, claiming that its naval and air power, as well as leadership structures, have been severely degraded.
The President also called on Indo-Pacific allies, including South Korea and Australia, to play a more active role in addressing the crisis. His remarks reflect a broader push to frame the situation as a shared global responsibility rather than a unilateral US effort.
The ultimatum has heightened concerns about a potential escalation in the region, with global markets and diplomatic channels closely monitoring developments.
