Trump warns Iran of escalation if no deal is reached
US President Donald Trump warned that the United States could dramatically intensify military action against Iran if ongoing negotiations fail, stating that the country risks being pushed “back to the Stone Age.” His remarks came as the conflict entered its fifth week, with Washington claiming significant battlefield progress.
In a national address, Trump highlighted what he described as rapid and decisive military gains, asserting that US forces have weakened Iran’s missile systems, naval capabilities, and command structure. He emphasised that the central objective remains preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, alongside curbing its regional influence.
Trump signalled that the coming two to three weeks could be critical. If Iran does not agree to US terms, he said, Washington is prepared to escalate strikes further, potentially targeting critical infrastructure such as power facilities. Despite these claims, independent assessments suggest Iran still retains notable military capacity, even if weakened.
The President compared the timeline of the current conflict with past wars such as World War I, World War II, and Vietnam, arguing that the speed of US advances demonstrates operational efficiency. At the same time, he acknowledged domestic concerns about rising fuel prices and the duration of the conflict.
Energy security also featured prominently in his address. Trump called on global powers to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping route, while reiterating that the US is no longer dependent on Middle Eastern oil.
Although Trump insisted regime change is not the goal, he maintained that sustained pressure will continue until Iran’s military and nuclear capabilities are neutralised. He concluded by warning that while an end to the conflict may be near, further escalation remains a real possibility.
