VP Debate: Vance Earns Trump’s Praise, Walz Faces Silence from Harris
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Ohio Senator JD Vance faced off in the highly anticipated vice-presidential debate, the only one of the election season. While the Republican side erupted in praise for Vance, led by former President Donald Trump, there was notable silence from Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden regarding Walz’s performance.
Trump immediately praised Vance, calling his debate showing "outstanding" and labeling Walz a "Low IQ Disaster," likening him to Kamala Harris. Trump warned that a Walz-Harris administration would be disastrous for the country, questioning their ability to stand up to "sharp, fierce foreign leaders."
Trump’s senior adviser Danielle Alvarez said Trump was "thrilled" with Vance’s performance, highlighting his ability to communicate the message of the Trump-Vance ticket and criticize the "failures" of Kamala Harris' time in office. Trump Jr. also lauded Vance, calling his debate appearance a “masterclass.”
On the Democratic side, while Harris remained silent, her campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon praised Walz for showing the leadership that made him Harris' choice for running mate. She contrasted his "straight talk" and focus on real solutions with Vance's defense of Trump’s record.
Despite the varying reactions, the debate primarily focused on domestic issues, with brief discussions on international topics such as the Israel-Iran conflict and U.S. support for Ukraine.
