Vivek Ramaswamy Calls for Overhaul of US Immigration System
Indian-American entrepreneur and Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy has reignited the debate on America’s immigration system, criticizing it for incentivizing dishonesty. Responding to a viral TikTok podcast clip, Ramaswamy took to X (formerly Twitter), stating, “The #1 human attribute that our immigration system currently rewards isn’t intelligence, hard work, or love for America. It’s the willingness to lie to the US government. That must change, and it will.”
In the podcast, Ramaswamy elaborated on the flaws of the current framework, particularly the asylum process. He claimed the system rewards individuals who lie about facing imminent threats due to race or religion, while those who adhere to the truth are denied.
Linking the issue to broader conservative frustrations, Ramaswamy emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms, starting with securing the border. He argued that resolving illegal immigration must precede broader legal immigration changes.
A strong supporter of Donald Trump, Ramaswamy echoed Trump’s immigration policies, calling for measures like mass deportations and cutting federal funding for undocumented immigrants. He described such steps as “pragmatic,” suggesting they would encourage “self-deportations.”
As the son of lawful immigrants, Ramaswamy consistently advocates for a system that upholds meritocracy and constitutional principles. He has criticized policies rewarding illegal entry, stressing the importance of abiding by immigration laws.
Ramaswamy’s remarks highlight his broader vision for reform, rooted in strengthening the rule of law and ensuring fairness in America’s immigration system.
