YSRTP leader YS Sharmila was detained in Mahbubabad, Telangana, over a statement she made towards BRS Legislator.
Sharmila reportedly made offensive and provocative remarks that were "used to disturb public harmony," according to the police.
The president of the YSR Telangana Party, YS Sharmila, was held by the Telangana Police on Sunday for reportedly making indecent remarks against Mahabubabad Lawmaker Banoth Shankar Naik.
The BRS MLA had already received criticism from Sharmila at a public gathering on Saturday.
As part of her Praja Prasthanam Padayatra, Sharmila was camping in Salar Thanda village in the Mahabubabad Assembly Constituency when the event occurred.
The YSRTP leader had first received a notification from the police, but Sharmila was later taken into prison and sent to Hyderabad. When YSRTP employees organised a protest and barricaded the road, the police had to use force to scatter them.
There was tension earlier in the day when Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) cadre in the Mahabubabad Assembly Constituency blocked Sharmila's Padayatra. The BRS cadre protested at Sharmila's Padyatra's campsite under the direction of Legislator Naik's wife.
Naik's supporters allegedly attempted to assault YSRTP leaders and threw stones at their cars and the party's campaign posters after being offended by Sharmila's remarks.
